Learning modules

Four topics, written for your year level.

Playground

Practise here as much as you like. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

These four practice tools are the same ones inside the modules. Use them to try things out before you use the real apps at school.

About this portal

Our mission: every student in Aotearoa should leave primary and intermediate school able to use technology with confidence, care and good judgement. This portal gives Years 1 to 8 a safe place to practise the skills that school devices ask for every day, from finding the shift key to working out whether an AI answer can be trusted.

Everything runs in the browser. There is no sign in, no account, no server, and no tracking. Work is saved on the device only, so a student who uses a shared school laptop should tick their name in again each session or use the same device each time.

Notes for teachers and whānau

How to get the most out of it in a classroom.

Setting up

  • Set the year level first. Lesson text, examples and quiz questions all change with it.
  • Junior students (Years 1 to 3) usually need the read aloud button and the large text setting turned on.
  • On an interactive whiteboard, use extra large text and work through a module as a class.

Teaching with it

  • Each module holds short lessons, one practice tool, and a quiz. Twenty minutes is a comfortable session.
  • Quizzes can be retaken. A repeat attempt after discussion is worth more than a first lucky guess.
  • The four playground tools work well as a warm up or an early finisher task.

Progress and evidence

  • A badge is awarded for 100% on a module quiz. A module counts as finished at 75% or more.
  • The certificate unlocks once all four modules are finished, and it prints on A4.
  • Resetting data clears everything for that device, so print or photograph a certificate first.

Safety and privacy

  • Only a first name is asked for. Please do not enter surnames or contact details.
  • Passwords typed into the password checker stay in the browser and are never stored or sent.
  • For real concerns about online harm, contact Netsafe on 0508 638 723 or talk to your school leadership team.

Curriculum links

Content is written against the Digital Technologies learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum, with a focus on the Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes strand, alongside the key competencies of Managing Self and Relating to Others. Teachers should always check content against their own school's digital citizenship agreement before use.
